Prayer is a Part of Our Daily Lives

Prayer begins and ends each day at Notre Dame. In the morning, the students pray the Memorare, our school prayer. At the end of the day, the students pray the Prayer for Generosity written by Ignatius of Loyola.  All classes also begin with prayer. The chapel is open and available to students for personal prayer time. Prayer also occurs at random times throughout the day for special intentions. Our students and faculty participate in First Friday Devotions by attending Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel.

We celebrate Mass as a school regularly, and each class level has class Masses twice per semester. Our Theology Department plans a weekly “Midweek Motivation” which is a prayer experience each Wednesday morning at 7:10 a.m. in the school’s Chapel. Prayer experiences include Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, celebrations of specific Feast Days and Stations of the Cross.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help,
or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto you,
O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother.
To you I come; before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen

Prayer Before Meals

Bless us, O Lord! and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

God, remember the needs of the poor. Amen.

Prayer for Generosity

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve as You deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing I am doing your will.
Amen.
