ND President Receives St. Mary Distinguished Alumni Award

Congratulations to Notre Dame President Tim Garner on being named a St. Mary Cathedral School Distinguished Graduate!

Tim Garner is a 1989 graduate of St. Mary Cathedral School. He, along with his three younger siblings (Brent, Jason and Loreal) all attended St. Mary School and was preceded by his mother (Linda) and grandmother (Rosemary Seyer) at the school. Tim’s mother and his father (Bob) are lifelong members of St. Mary Cathedral Church. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1993 and was an all-state player on the 1993 state championship baseball team. He was also a four-year three sport athlete and four-year participant in the cast and crew of the musicals.

After high school, Tim attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and received an undergraduate degree in biology in 1997. In 1999, he married his high school sweetheart, Meg Beussink. They have been married for 25 years and have three children: Caleb (a junior in college), Anna (a sophomore in college) and Clare (a freshman at Notre Dame).

In 2001, Tim began his career at Notre Dame Regional High School and taught various courses including biology, physics, math, psychology and sociology. During his first 12 years, he coached baseball and then was one of the soccer coaches for the next eight. After receiving his graduate degree from William Woods University in 2012 in School Administration, Tim served as the school’s assistant principal from 2014-2019, then in the fall of 2019 became the high school’s first lay principal. This year, Tim has become Notre Dame’s first school president. He also serves on the diocesan school board and the state’s accreditation board for private schools.

Tim has been active in the school’s retreat programs and mission trips during his time at Notre Dame High School. Tim and his family have recently returned to St. Mary Cathedral as parishioners. He serves as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and is a part of the St. Mary Schola Choir directed by Ms. Thuy Ha.
