Saturday, August 27, the Notre Dame boys soccer team kicked off their season against John Burroughs High School. It was a valiant effort from the Bulldogs, ultimately ending in a loss. Despite this rough start, the team is already working for the season ahead.
Head Coach Matt Vollink said, “Today with the game I chose a lot of things we did well and things we need to work on. So if you look from where we start and our end product, 18-20 games in, that is what I am worried about.”
Improvements were made going into the second game this season against Perryville, resulting in a 3-2 win for the Bulldogs. The team plans to keep their momentum going into Sportsfest beginning on Thursday, September 1.
“I think we have a good chance of doing well,” said Volink. “We just have to make sure we go from where we are now to get ourselves prepared for it at the end. The team has been working hard in practice and individuals have been stepping up. The sky’s the limit with this team.”
No matter the outcome of the season, six senior leaders will play a key role. Will Dodson, Michael Huston, Davis Dow, Cole Bruenderman, Eli Youngblood, and Hayes Evans will strive for success in their final season at Notre Dame.
“The goal for this year is to definitely win a district championship and set the team up for success in the future,” said Dow.
